Director, Release Management

Position Description

What does a great Director Release Management do?


Responsible for execution and governance of Release Management processes across the Fiserv Enterprise. This person manages the release management teams that deliver these processes to ensure a consistent, collaborative and planned approach to reduce repeat incidents and influence defect management across the entire company.  Critical to that delivery, this person drives continuous improvement among technical and business focused leaders across engineering, operations, product development, project management, and product management disciplines.


Manage releases, system enhancements, and other strategic and tactical initiatives implemented during specified managed maintenance windows.  Works in partnership with all impacted functional areas including Business Units (Project Management, development and Software Quality), Engineering, Operations, Change Management and others as needed to ensure a successful start-up and completion of assigned releases.



  • Partners with leaders across the Enterprise to establish best practices, governance and enhancements to the processes and tools.

  • Gathers, measures, reports and provides strategic recommendations based on Problem Management metrics and KPI results.

  • Ensures adherence of process/service execution with regulatory and internal compliance controls to minimize company risk.

  • Communicates regularly with Fiserv stakeholders regarding changes, problem, and release management.

  • Promotes continuous improvement by conducting, documenting, and communicating lessons learned.

  • Collaborates with service and process managers to ensure consistency and standardization across processes and/or services throughout the organization.

  • Manages routines on the identification of gaps or deficiencies in new and existing processes, and services.

  • Advocates and drives compliance with ITSM policies and procedures across the enterprise.

  • Maintains a current knowledge of Fiserv services and technology solutions.

  • Manage all aspects of release management planning and execution of managed maintenance windows

  • Set and manage release support expectations ensuring all applicable groups are engaged in the release planning and execution

  • Create comprehensive deployment plans, including detailed timeline of changes, risks and mitigation plans, areas needs for validation and resources to execute validation.

  • Execution of deployment plan for managed maintenance window, ensuring issues are identified and resolved, working with Command Center personnel to identify and resolve incidents.

  • Coordinate with resources to identify and monitor issues, impact and dependencies for managed Maintenance Windows

  • Conduct post managed maintenance window support ensuring lessons learned and metrics are gathered and communicated

  • Promote continuous improvement by conducting, documenting, and communicating release lessons learned

  • On-site to support Managed Maintenance Windows, weekend work required

  • Requirements


Basic qualifications for consideration:



  • Bachelor?s Degree in Information Technology, Business or related discipline

  • Strong background in designing, deploying and running ITIL

  • Minimum 7 years work experience

  • Large Program or Project Management experience

  • Familiar with Release/Project Management practices

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to build relationships with other functional areas

  • Strong organization and time management skills: Operates independently with guidance

  • Strong with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to lead a large organization

  • Ability to build relationships with and influence other functional areas

  • Strong organization and time management skills: Operates independently with minimal guidance

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
